Today is the first day on the road. We picked up a new Chevy Malibu at Hertz in the Falls. The weather is beautiful, sunny and 70's. We are home long enough to at least see the spring grass and new leaves. The azaleas and phlox are very vibrant. It's hard to leave it after the long winter. The slow spring seems to have made everything bloom better.
Left Hudson around 10AM. Driving due West on I90. At the Indiana border we can see the sky change. From that point on we watch the thermometer drop 30 degrees. The fog has set in, the rivers are steaming. By the time we get to Chicago it's 40 degrees. Quite a change, palm trees 2 days ago and now looks like snow? We heard about Minnesota's record breaking May snow storm and 4 inches of snow in Anchorage May 4. It bodes for a cooler trip than 2 years ago.
We are staying at the Fairmount, a small boutique hotel owned by Marriott, on Ontario 2 short blocks from the Mag Mile. We take a walk along the Mile. Chuck goes to the Garmin store for a software upgrade for our GPS. This is one of the rare stores existing. Stop off at Timothy O'Toole's Pub for a quick refresher. Dinner at the Capital Grille 2 doors down. Expensive, top of the line steaks. Would ask for booth seating near the windows in the main room in the future. The food is delicious the steak is perfect.
End of first day. We'll be in the RV tomorrow night.
Good night!
